Breast lift procedure increasing in popularity

According to a statistic from the American Society of Plastic surgeons, breast lifts are becoming increasingly popular. Breast lifts are growing at twice the rate as breast implants. Breast lifts have grown by 70 percent since the year 2000. This tops breast implants by a two to one ratio. Breast implants are still the most common procedure that women undergo in the US, but breast lifts follow steadily behind. More than 90,000 breast lift procedures were performed in the year 2013.

ASPS President Robert X. Murphy, Jr. MD. stated, “Many women are looking for a youthful breast by using the tissue they already have.”

Nearly 70 percent of breast lift procedures in 2013 were performed on women between the ages of 30 and 54.

Dr. Dale Franks explained that many women who have had children want to get rid of the excess skin. The volume of their breast has decreased since having kids, and women want their breasts to be back up to where they are supposed to be.

One of Dr. Franks patients that has undergone a breast lift procedure claimed, “Childbirth, breastfeeding and aging takes a toll on the body. I finally decided one morning that I was going to lose weight and get healthy.”

After eating right and exercising regularly, she lost nearly 75 pounds. This still didn’t fully satisfy her though. Her body was looking good from the waist down, but she wasn’t happy with how her breasts appeared.

Dr. Franks explains that the breast lift surgery is a good alternative to those who do not want implants. The patients need to have a considerable amount of breast tissue. To determine if you are a good candidate for a breast lift procedure a simple pencil test can be done. A woman needs to place a pencil under her breast. If the pencil stays without falling then her breasts are beginning to sag. This can be helped with a breast lift procedure.

Dr. Franks' patient considered getting implants. After doing research and learning the different procedures, she opted for a breast lift instead. This eased her mind knowing that only her natural tissue had to be used for this procedure.

The patient couldn’t be happier with her decision to get a breast lift. It has changed her view of herself. She is now wearing clothes that she never thought she could before.
